Moss bag

‘Berries to Beads’ is a unique digital-beading technique I invented that combines berries with high-resolution digital tools to create scalable ‘beaded’ works.

The ‘Berries to Beads’ © technique mirrors traditional beading: it is both a meticulous and technically demanding practice and an art form that showcases Métis history and the importance of plant and animal life.

This new technique is a natural evolution of my previous plant-based works. I am a plant scientist and, as such, am constantly searching for novel ways to integrate plant material, women’s traditional handwork and high-resolution digital tools.

The above collection of works is inspired by Moss Bag H4-2-13 (artist unknown) held in the Manitoba Museum, Winnipeg, MB. I wish to thank Dr. Maureen Matthews, Curator of Ethnology at the Museum, for her collaboration on this project.
